Lucknow: The Department of Hindi and Modern Indian Languages at Lucknow University concluded its Convocation Week celebrations with a prize distribution ceremony held at the Malaviya Auditorium. The event recognised winners of various academic and literary competitions organised by the department ahead of the university’s 69th Convocation.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Head of the Department, Professor Pawan Agrawal. Presiding over the ceremony, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Arvind Mohan, highlighted the role of students in shaping the future, stating that while civilisations continually evolve, it is the younger generation that serves as the driving force behind their progress.
Guest of Honour and Director of Culture, Professor Anchal Srivastava, lauded the Department of Hindi for its continued efforts in promoting literary and cultural activities through such initiatives, emphasising their importance in enriching the academic environment.
The ceremony featured the felicitation of winners of speech, essay and poetry recitation competitions organised as part of the Convocation Week celebrations. The event was conducted by Professor Alka Pandey, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Professor Yogendra Pratap Singh.
Among the distinguished faculty members and guests present were Professor Himanshu Sen, Professor Shruti, Professor Mamta Tiwari, Dr Senthil Kumar, Dr Gyanendra Pratap Singh, Dr Seema Yadav, along with a large number of teachers and students.
In the speech competition on the theme “Hindi: From Local to Global,” Anmol Tiwari secured the first prize, followed by Kalyani Vihanga in second place and Aashna Chaurasia in third. Soumya Awasthi received the consolation prize.
In the essay competition on the topic “How Did India Become the World’s Fourth-Largest Economy?” Prem Prakash Mishra, a PhD coursework scholar, won the first prize. Shubham Trivedi, a postgraduate student, secured the second position, while Akash Kumar Prajapati, also a postgraduate student, finished third. Anmol Tiwari received the consolation prize in the essay category.
The programme marked the successful conclusion of the Hindi Department’s Convocation Week celebrations, recognising academic excellence, literary talent and student participation while reinforcing the university’s commitment to promoting language, culture and intellectual discourse.
